Historically, canoes and kayaks were used primarily for transport, hunting, and trade. Kayaks are closed boats with a cockpit for sitting in and athletes use a double-blade paddle. Canoes are open boats and athletes use a single-blade paddle.
Canoe/Kayak competition of the Toronto 2017 NAIG will consist of male and female singles, doubles and mixed doubles for 14U, 16U and 19U age categories.
For specific information regarding the rules and regulations that will be followed for the Toronto 2017 NAIG, please refer to the Canoe Kayak Canada Marathon Canoe Racing Competition Rules and Sprint Racing Rules.
